Nike’s Big Butt Campaign | The Atlantic Wire

Get your butt in shape but spot the giveaway mistake

You’ve got to love Nike for this one. Coming from a guy who can not only appreciate the strength and power associated with strong glutes and also the aesthetic benefits as well, I have to say Nike is doing the world some good. Running, jumping and generally being stronger and more stable has a lot to do with glute strength. For women it’s especially important to have strong glutes to keep the knees in alignment during activity. The glutes are also one of the largest muscles in the body. The simple fact that in so many people the glutes are inactive makes me shake my head. All that fat burning potential wasting away. Well it took Nike 20 years but they’re finally gaining appreciation for Sir Mix-A-Lot.

Top 5 Fat Blasting Exercises (with a Thai twist)

Free weights

Image via Wikipedia

Exercise doesn’t have to be boring. It doesn’t have to include weights although it should if you plan to build a strong and shapely body. In order to burn body fat the exercises you choose should be full body and/or include the larger muscle groups. Check out my top five fat blasting exercises for August.

5. Mountain Climbers- be sure to keep the back in a neutral spine position. In the video the spine is not neutral.

4. Squat Jump you want to tone those legs and tighten those gluts as well as add some shape then these are essential.

3. Plyometric Split Squat – be sure the knee does not go forward over the toes and that you land through the center of the front foot.

2. Burpee – Burpees are high intensity and require a full body explosive movement. If you’re looking to melt away some body fat his exercise is a must.

1. Squat & Press – despite the annoying music in the background this would be a squat & press. I decided to incorporate this particular VDO because we’re in Thailand and I just had to put a local twist on this article. It’s not often you see a woman in Thailand lifting like this and it shows that heavy weights are nothing to fear. If you want to lose body fat and tone then it’s a must!

World’s Strongest Child…Should Children Do This?

As I was looking through various fitness videos on youtube, I was shocked by what I saw.  The Video was entitled, “The Worlds Strongest Child and Me”.   Watch the video and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Not only does lifting heavy loads as a child have the potential to disrupt the growth plates, stunting the growth of the child, but there are many damaging effects on the connective tissue and potentially long term damage to posture in the future. Loading kids up with weight before they have reached a certain age is simply unacceptable. In my opinion, this father should be under serious scrutiny by child services. Is the child living out his own dreams or is this father simply living his own dreams through his child?

Have a look and you be the judge. Watch the Video

I Just Started Working Out; Why am I gaining weight?

So you’ve just signed up for a membership at your local gym, or you just began working with a personal trainer, but after the first two weeks you get on the scale and realize that you’re a kilo heavier. What’s going on? Well first of all, if you have a trainer I’m sure he or she has told you to stay off the scale. Time and time again as fitness professionals we find ourselves locked in battle with the treacherous scale as people obsess over weight instead of the stuff that really matters i.e., body fat, girth measurements and how your clothes fit. So first things first, throw that scale out the window. Whether you gain weight or not has a significant amount to do with many factors, including body type and nutrition. Read more of this post
