Funny Fitness Fridays Episode 5: Bacon Prevents Hair Loss

When San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted to ban toys in the McDonald’s Happy Meal, they were finally taking a stand against big business advertising to children. Of course you can argue that parents are ultimately responsible, but the target is still children. Get your child a Happy Meal and they will be happy…Happy Meal = Happiness.

Tobacco companies are selling a nicotine dispenser full of toxins and unhealthy, cancer causing substances so why do we allow fast food companies to sell essentially an edible version…Fast food is essentially a sugar dispenser packaged to look like real food, containing various unhealthy substances. Have you seen what’s in fast food chicken nuggets for example?

Anyhow, in this week’s Funny Fitness Friday we bring back Jack from Jack in the Box with another short scene sure to get a smirk out of you.

McDonalds Happy Meal

Leave it to my hometown to be the city to set the trends for health in the United States. For as long as I can remember smoking has been banned in public establishments so when I arrive in cities or countries that have yet to ban this I tend to wonder how far behind are some of these places with regards to overall health and wellness.  I mean in San Francisco there was even a ballot measure to ban smoking in parks, pushing smoking even further away from those of us trying to enjoy fresh, clean air.

Interesting move by San Francisco to ban toys in happy meals. What’s significant about this is that the aim of the happy meal is children. As Whitney Houston said a long time ago (before her crack addiction) and I reiterate, “I believe that children are the future, teach them right and let them lead the way”. Well with regards to health and food choices we need to help our children make the right food choices.  The happy meal is no more than a marketing tool that targets children with fun toys as a lure to get them started on what will inevitably be their addiction to sugar filled fast foods…

What’s in Fast Food Chicken?

Ever wonder what’s in a Chicken McNugget? Well, probably not. I’ve never wondered. I just look at it and ask myself how can that be chicken? Well for those of you who were not convinced by the movie “Super Size Me”, maybe you need a little more convincing about why you should steer clear of Fast Food as much as you can. And do your children a favor and keep it out of their lives. They may not understand now, but they’ll thank you for it some day.

every day, hoards of Americans consume these ingredients in Chicken McNuggets, which McDonalds claims are “made with white meat, wrapped up in a crisp tempura batter.”

However chicken only accounts for about 50% of a Chicken McNugget. The other 50% includes a large percentage of corn derivatives, sugars, leavening agents and other completely synthetic ingredients, meaning that parts of the nugget do not come from a field or farm at all. They come from a petroleum plant. Hungry?

Scariest perhaps is the fact that this recipe is a new and improved, “healthier” Chicken McNugget launched in 2003 after a federal judge called the deep-fried poultry bites “a McFrankenstein creation of various elements not utilized by the home cook.” Also terrifying is the fact that these McFrankenuggets are overwhelmingly marketed to children who love their fun shapes and kid-friendly size.
